Intentionality: Four questions to align your heart & mind in business

The biggest trial I’ve gone through this season is the discernment of intentionality. In Hebrew, the word intention is “Kavanah” and it refers to the direction of the heart, and focus of the mind. Ensuring that the direction of you heart is going the right way and that your mind is focused on the right things.

How can we determine what is “right?”

I believe doing what’s “right” is determined by making decisions with the end in mind— thus saying no to anything that won’t get you to the end goal. We can’t make the right choices in life without being confident about where we’re going. And if where we’re going is not led by God and his timing, I’d argue that there is a misalignment of the hearts direction, therefore a lack of intentional pursuit.

Here are some questions to ask yourself to better identify the direction your business is going in…

1. Who or what are you intentionally pursuing this season, and why?

The answer to this question will point to your values. Values should always be the third thing you determine for your business. The first two are your vision and mission. Values are typically driven by your deepest fears. The things you fear the most are what propel you forward and keep you focused on making decisions that align those those values. Things like the people you hire, the clients you choose to bring on, the policies and systems you put in place. All of these things should be driven by what you value.

2. What groups are you intentionally placing yourself in, and why?

Is where you’re choosing to show up actually bringing you, your business & your leaders towards what the future of it needs? This answer will point to your growth goals. Goals cannot be determined without values. Goals are fueled by your values, but are rooted in results. Goals get you a few steps closer to your vision, and keep you taking the right steps forward. Where you place your energy and attention and position your brand is what helps you achieve your goals.

3. Are your pursuits rooted in truth & bringing you closer to the mission God has for you, or pushing you further away?

Remember that not all open doors are meant to be walked through and opportunities meant to be taken… The answer to these questions will point to your priorities in this season. Your goals help you prioritize whats going to move the needle in your business. It’s easy to get lost in the busyness of to-do’s and administrative work, but this is where you must stick to your priorities. Your priorities should be determined by the bigger “why”. Why are you showing up 100% in one area today? Why are you choosing to deprioritize that which won’t get you closer to your goals? Being intentional in choosing your priorities will help you gain momentum in your business.

4. Are your intentions pure or rooted in brokenness?

Do you actually feel capable and worthy to receive that which you are pursuing? if not, why? The answer will point to where you still need healing. Sometimes we hold ourselves back from achieving big goals because deep down, we don’t believe we’re worthy to receive it. Taking time to slow down and questions your motives and how you show up, will help you and the people you lead move with more intention.

✅ Values will determine your goals

✅ Goals will determine your priorities

✅ Priorities will determine your focus

✅ Focus will push you in the right direction.

Get curious and start asking the hard questions…the truth will always reveal itself.

Cheers,
Nicole
